LITTLE SIMZ WINS MERCURY PRIZE

Little Simz has been crowned the winner of this year’s Mercury Prize for her fourth album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert (Age 101/ AWAL). She beat competition from Wet Leg and Harry Styles.

Simz was honored at Tuesday night’s ceremony in London, which was rescheduled from September after being halted in progress following the death of the Queen.

Sometimes I Might Be Introvert hit #4 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart in September and earned Simz four BRIT nominations and a win for Best New Act.

In a statement, the judges called the set an “accomplished and complex yet entirely accessible" album that exemplified the work of “someone striving constantly to push herself," elaborating, "It deals with themes both personal and political while putting them against music that is as sophisticated as it is varied. The Mercury Prize is all about shining a light on albums of lasting value and real artistry. Sometimes I Might Be Introvert has both.”

Others nominated for the award included Wet Leg for their eponymous debut album on Domino, Styles for Harry’s House (Columbia), Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under (Polydor) and Self Esteem’s Prioritise Pleasure (UMG).
